Archetypes of the Sun
The Christian religion is a parody on the worship of the Sun, in which they put a man called Christ in the place of the Sun, and pay him the adoration originally paid to the Sun.
–Thomas Paine 1737-1809
The personification of the Sun, performing miracles and acts of healing, associated with resurrection and rebirth, whose birthday, December 25th, is also thought to be the birthday of the Sun. Nearest the winter solstice, the longest night of the year, thereafter, days begin to lengthen as if the Sun is reborn each year.
These solar themes don’t just apply to Jesus Christ, but many other divine figures throughout time (and space) who share the same archetypal identity:
Ra, Horus, Sekhmet (Egyptian)
Surya and Krishna (Indian)
Helios, Atys, Dionysus (Greek)
Mithra (Persian)
Amaterasu (Japanese)
Sol (Norse)
Religious wars are simply an argument that our archetypes are better than your archetypes for some sort of political gain. And these arguments rely on how much we (the people) invest belief and devotion in division. But is it worth the bloodshed? Is it worth the genocide? The bombing and environmental destruction of the land and the nuclear chain reactions that ensue.
By presenting the similarities across cultures, one would hope to see a unification and not the monumental division historically perpetuated (as seen with Israel and Iran).
“Religion can never reform mankind because religion is slavery.”
-Robert Ingersoll 1833-1899
Freedom in America was at the expense of spiritual imprisionment. All of those Native Americans forced to assimilate and worship through missions and missionaries. The crusades. Wars forever fought over whose belief should reign supreme. But why do we need to be homogenous? Why can’t we accept our differences. Rather than see our differences as a threat, find the opportunities and benefits. The survival of the human race depends upon it.
To be the Sun, would mean to emit light. To shine upon others. Bravery and courageous kindness to strangers. The law of reciprocity. Giving to others without expectations.
What happened to our manners? Integrity? Honor? Perhaps we have been filling the pores of our moral existence with amazon boxes and doomsday scrolling and forgot how to connect with our material existence.
When was the last time you abandoned technology to hike into the wilderness? Howl at the moon. Walk barefoot in the grass. Thank the Sun for its’ warmth. Nurture seeds to flower. We all can BE like the Sun. We all have to power to emit light. Rather than division, right now we need community and each other.
The planets in our sky have been shifting positions in ways not seen for decades. In the case of Pluto in Aquarius, hundreds of years. Whether or not you believe in it, Astrology can be used as a tool for pattern recognition, and the pattern ahead of us is expected to be more destabilizing. Gemini in Uranus and Neptune in Aries has historically been WAR. Both WWII and the Civil War had these planetary configurations. Anyone conscious today recognizes the vibes are certainly moving in the direction of a sequel. But panic, we must not.
“Even the darkest night will end and the Sun will rise.”
-Victor Hugo
